"One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2021: Déjà vu All Over Again"
Presented by Michael Whitty, Smith Gambrell & Russell LLP
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2021 introduces a blend of continuity and targeted updates to tax policy, with a strong emphasis on maintaining the stability of estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax planning. Crucially, the act preserves existing estate, gift, and GST tax rates and exemptions, ensuring that the vast majority of established tax savings techniques remain intact, providing reassurance for individuals and families engaged in long-term wealth transfer strategies. Alongside this continuity, the act maintains current income tax rates and brackets, while introducing a modest increase to the state and local tax (SALT) deduction cap, tempered by a phase-out provision to balance fiscal impacts. Furthermore, it introduces new savings vehicles to enhance financial planning options and includes tax provisions to encourage charitable giving, making the act a balanced approach that prioritizes stability in estate planning while offering incremental incentives for taxpayers.
5:00 p.m. ET Wine Tasting
The wine tasting will focus on lighter, crisper wines, well suited for serving chilled in warmer summer weather. The following wines are provided as examples only. Attendees are encouraged to teach us about some wines we may not already know, such as lighter wines from less-well-known regions.
